What options do I have for adoption?

One of the ways that families frequently expand is through adoption. Adoption is a great way for families to bring another member into their lives. That being said, it is important to understand all of your options if you are considering adopting a child. There are a number of different forms of adoption that should be taken into consideration.

  • Domestic Adoption: when adoptive parents go through an agency to help pair them with a child within the United States
  • International Adoption: this is also typically done with the help of an adoption agency but it involves the adoption of a child from a different county
  • Private Adoption: these adoptions typically do not use an adoption agency. In many situations, the biological parents already know the adoptive parents and they handle matters on their own
  • Open Adoption: these adoptions allow biological family to remain a relationship with the child even after they have been adopted by a new family

Adoption requires the assistance of an experienced attorney because not only is it a very document-heavy process, it also may have a number of different obstacles that the parents must overcome. This is especially true when the parents are adopting the child from another country and must also handle immigration laws and the adoption laws in the child’s country of origin.
