When a couple makes the decision to get divorced, they will have to determine whether alternative dispute resolution will work for them. One form of alternative dispute resolution is mediation, which has increased in popularity due to the many benefits that can ease some of the stresses of a divorce. One of the benefits of a mediated divorce is that these divorces often take less time than litigated divorces do.
In many situations, a couple can take charge on how long the divorce will take. The length of a mediated divorce depends largely on how long it takes for the couple to resolve contested matters. So, if a couple is willing to work together and talk through the contested issues in an effort to come to a conclusion, the divorce can be finalized in just a few sessions. On the other hand, if the couple is having a hard time working together and communicating, it may take a little bit longer for them to finalize the divorce. However, even those who need a few more sessions to come to a divorce agreement finish the process quicker than those who have a litigated divorce. Of course, everyone’s situation is different.
